The Macau SAR government says it will expand the organization and personnel scale of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) in order to strengthen the supervision of different gaming sectors and ensure the orderly development of the gaming industry in Macau.
According to an amendment of the “Organization and Operations of the DICJ”, which was announced by the Executive Council last Friday, the enlargement of Macau’s gaming regulator will include the addition of a new deputy director. As a result, the DICJ will be led by one Director and two Deputy Directors.
The organization of the DICJ and functions of some departments will also be adjusted with the current Inspection of Games of Fortune Department (DIJFA) and Inspection of Pari-Mutuels Department (DIAM) to be integrated with the Gaming Inspection Department, creating three divisions.
The Secretary for Administration and Justice, Cheong Weng Chon, said the latest adjustment to the DICJ is in response to the increasing development of the gaming industry since liberalization and to cope with the steady growth in gaming tables and properties. The government also considered the future demand on human resources around management and monitoring after the re-tendering of gaming licenses.
Meanwhile, the current Audit Department (DA) and Research and Investigation Department (DEI) will be split into two divisions – the “Finance and Compliance Audit Department” and “Gaming Research and Liaison Department”.
In order to fulfill the enlargement and to cope with the steady increase of gaming properties, the DICJ will increase its number of personnel from the current 192 to 459 in the future.
The DICJ Director, Adriano Ho, said that the new Deputy Director had not yet been assigned and the DICJ will employ more staff in stages.
